Help Wishes Come True at the Forbes Family Christmas Animated Light Display

Elizabethton, TN – For 10 year old Steven, meeting Jeff Gordon was only a dream. He possessed every Jeff Gordon item possible, wore clothes with Jeff Gordon’s name on them and followed his races religiously. When the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of East Tennessee granted Steven’s fondest wish, sending him and his family to meet Jeff Gordon, his lifelong dream became a reality. In fact, if you’re traveling around the country and happen to drive by Jeff Gordon’s trailer, you’ll see a picture on the trailer of Jeff and Steven together! This winter season, Make-A-Wish supporters can help heartfelt wishes like Steven’s come true through the Season of WishesSM campaign.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of East Tennessee is celebrating the Season of Wishes with Roger and Mary Forbes of Elizabethton, who have put together a dynamic Christmas animated light show to benefit the foundation and its many “wish kids” who are waiting for their one special dream to come true. From Saturday, November 28th through Christmas, December 26th, the Forbes will be presenting their animated light show, open to the public, from 6pm-10pm Sunday through Thursday and 6pm-11pm on Friday and Saturdays. The display of 125,000 lights will be located on the 700 block of Holston Avenue in Elizabethton. Viewers will turn their car radios to 106.7 FM to hear the music accompanying the light display. There will be no cost to drive by and enjoy the show but donations for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of East Tennessee will be accepted. In Northeast Tennessee, there are normally 20-25 children waiting for their special wish to be granted. What a fantastic gift you would be giving a wish child this year with your donation. Fatz Café is a sponsor of this special event and other sponsorships are currently being sought. Click HERE to see our current list of sponsors.

You can join the Make-A-Wish Foundation in celebrating the spirit of holiday giving. You can discover the many ways to share the power of a wish® with family and friends during the Season of Wishes at http://www.wishetn.wish.org/. Whether you donate at the Forbes Family Christmas Animated Light Display, donate online, send festive Make-A-Wish holiday e-cards,or shop special holiday-themed products that benefit the Foundation, you’ll help us bring joy to children with life-threatening medical conditions throughout the year.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Founded in 1980 when a group of caring volunteers helped a young boy fulfill his dream of becoming a police officer, the Foundation is now the largest wish-granting charity in the world, with 65 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and nearly 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 180,000 wishes in the United States since its inception. Find out how you can share the power of a wish® at www.wishetn.org or call 423-989-9474.

On Tuesday, November 17, the Chi Omega Fraternity will host its third annual Chili Cook-off to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of East Tennessee. Local restaurants and organizations will compete for the title of “Best Chili in Chattanooga,” and proceeds from the event will go towards granting a wish to upcoming UTC freshman, Mckeehanon, whose wish is to attend the British Open.

Tickets are only $7 per person at the gate and include all you can eat chili, dessert, and the opportunity to vote for your favorite chili in a number of categories. Restaurants and local businesses can still enter chili in the competition for a $50 entry fee per five gallons of chili. Local “celebrity” judges will taste each chili dish entered and will name an official winner of the competition. People’s choice awards will also be given out for winners in the Best Restaurant and Best Organization categories.

The event will be held on the grassy area at Fourth and Mabel Streets beside McKenzie Arena on the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC) campus prior to the UTC versus ETSU men’s basketball game. The cook-off will begin at 5:00 p.m. and last until 7:00 p.m. Ticket holders can enjoy all you can eat chili while supplies last. Advance tickets are available for a discount at only $5 each. Local businesses that are willing to donate chili for the event but not for competition may do so at no charge. To request an entry form, advance tickets, or for more information about this event, please contact Amy Covington at amycovington@utc.edu or Advisor Shelley McGraw at (423) 364-0652.

WHAT: The Make-A-Wish Radiothon will be hosted on 107.9 The Duke on Thursday, October 8 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. As one of the Foundation’s largest fundraisers, the radiothon’s goal is to raise $10,000 to make wishes come true for kids with life-threatening medical conditions who live in Chattanooga and the surrounding area.

The event will broadcast live from the Northshore Grille Restaurant from 6 AM to 7 PM. The Radiothon will feature inspiring interviews with wish kids and their families.

To participate, listeners can tune in to 107.9 FM, make an on-line donation at 1079theduke.com or wishetn.org, call 423.468.8000, or come have breakfast, lunch or dinner with us.

You can also make a donation easily from your cell phone by texting WISH to 90999. A $5 donation will be made and will be charged to your cell phone bill! It’s that simple.

Join us on Thursday, October 8 from 6:30 am to 10:30 am at both the Northshore Grille and Coltranes on 9th (formerly known as The Cellar in the Krystal Building) for a special pancake breakfast to raise money for Make-A-Wish. The cost is $10 and includes pancakes, bacon, sausage, hashbrowns, juice and coffee. 100% of the proceeds benefit the radiothon and the Make-A-Wish Foundation!

Both Restaurants will also donate 15% of your bill (excluding alcohol) from lunch or dinner to the radiothon and Make-A-Wish.

WHERE:
